The Trip Begins
The time has flown since Linda and I got back from our last trip in late April 2021. Since arriving home I have worked for three weeks which was a good boost to the finances. I hate to think how things would be looking in the bank account if I did not get that chance to do a bit of work considering the bills that came in and Linda’s Holden Cruize needing some work, should have bought a Toyota. So I am very blessed to get the chance to have another trip and see some great parts of Australia. The plan for this trip is to head north to QLD and visit Lawn Hill National Park, the Savannah Way from the Lava Tubes all the way west to Mataranka on the Stuart Highway in the NT, then south to the Oodnadatta Track and onto the Flinders Ranges to complete some big walks I have been wanting to do, then home.

Remarkably I am doing this trip solo. Yes, you read that correctly. Linda is not coming with me because of her elderly parents needs and her not wanting to be away from them at this time. But I am not alone for the whole trip. I am tagging along with sister-n-law, Jan & brother-n-law, Ross for part of the trip. I am travelling with them into QLD, going to Lawn Hill and east along the Savannah Way to the Lava Tubes. They go onto Cairns and I turn around and complete the Savannah Way at NT and the rest of the trip alone. I will not be alone, of course, as there are many people on the road who I will be meeting.
The time came around fast to leave and on Tuesday the 18th of May I left home. I was up early at 5am to beat the peak hour traffic. I hitched up and headed out the driveway just after 6am. Jan & Ross hit the road about the time I was hitting the Central Coast and we had a good run to Scone where we pulled up for a coffee. We then pushed on or tried to. I was pulled up by RBT for a breath and drug test. You would have to be desperate to be on the grog by that time which was about 11am. Jan & Ross who had got through the RBT while they were still setting up were stopped a couple of hundred yards up the road where their fuel filter symbol had come on their dashboard. They made an inquiry and pushed on to Gunnedah where Ross bought a fuel filter. The light had gone off on the dash so they had the filter in case it came on again. We had lunch at Gunnedah and then pushed on to Boggabri where we pulled in to the Showground there. It was a lovely grassed area with reasonable showers and toilets.
It was only $10 a night without power (which we did not need) and we were able to hook up with water so we did not need their showers.
I had a walk that evening down to the Namoi river at the bridge. There is some water but it was not flowing.
It was a beautiful clear sky and sunset.
Hi Pete

ReplyDeleteHi Annette and Neil. Thanks so much for your prayer and blessing. The way to research, number 1 is the 'Wikicamps' app. It is awesome. It cost $7 when I originally downloaded it. It is so worth it. When you see Luke ask him what he thinks of it. Download and have a good play with it. There are other websites but that is really the only one I use. God bless you guys on your planning and travels.
