Croydon
On Tuesday the 8th of June I left Walkers Crossing and headed for Croydon. Firstly it was a short trip to Normanton where I visited the café and got some bread and a coffee and visited the butcher and got a few items. Then I was on the way to Croydon. There is a cheap camp in the town which operates on a donation. You go to the Information Centre firstly and register, give your donation and you are good to go. So I drove to the free camp there. It is spacious and has good amenities. Jan & Ross were parked at this free camp and were staying a second night there so I had caught them up after staying the previous night at Walkers Crossing. Jan had made a zillion phone calls working out where we would stay for the next few days. The issue was that we were going to Cobbold Gorge and it was very busy so that we could not get accommodation and a tour when we wanted. So she had to look at options and alternatives, hence a zillion phone calls. For once it is not me doing the hard yards on that. Jan did a good job in working it out though. After lunch we drove up to Lake Bellamy to check it out.
It is a nice spot and I had a swim. We are still having beautiful weather. Now that we are in the top end that is the norm. Unfortunately the sun was not out for most of the shots of the lake.
We checked out the view from the lookout. It is very nice country.
Then it was back to camp. At happy hour we sampled the red claw and cherubim which were delicious. Then before dinner we slipped back up to the lookout to checkout the sunset. It was very beautiful but not spectacular. Getting picky now aren’t I?
There is a lot more to see at Croydon but I did not take a look this time. I will be coming back through Croydon once we finish our trek east to the Lava Tubes which I was always going to do. I have now added a trip into Cairns thanks to the wheel rims. So I will update this post when I return to Croydon.
