Boomi

Saturday the 10th of July I woke up from a good night sleep, reached over and turned on the diesel heater as it was a cold morning. The more south I go the clolder it gets. My plan was to stop at a free camp somewhere, perhaps Surat, and the next day move on to visit my mate Dave at Lightning Ridge again. We had visited him on the way up. I grabbed my phone whilst the van was warming up with the heater. Looked on facebook and saw that my good friends John & Sue were heading to the Boomi hot springs from where they were at St George. They would be there for two nights. I knew they were travelling as well. It was a bit over 430km or so. I decided to go there and after Boomi I would still go to Lightning Ridge to visit Dave. Gave them a ring and also got a tip from them on the quality of the road from Mitchell down to St George. It was a good shortcut they have used a lot so away I went. I stopped in St George for lunch, as I have done a few times now, opposite the Information Centre which is right on the Balonne River. I got fuel and made it to Boomi about 4.30pm. It was great to catch up with john & Sue.
There is a good little campground right at the hot springs. $10 unpowered and $21 for power and water. John and Sue’s batteries were dying so they were on power.
It was a little windy and cold there at the campground so we decided to go to the pub for dinner. Dinner was good and it was a good night. The next morning after morning tea we went for a swim in the hot springs. It was pretty hot. We had a bit of fun going from the big pool to the hot bath.
Now this was Sunday the 11th of July and it had worked out very, very well as this was my birthday. I was pleased to be with friends on my birthday, especially as Linda was not with me. It was also a blessing that Sue and John had planned on a roast dinner for that night. It was a perfect day weather wise so how good was this.
We had another lay in the bore bath whilst the roast was cooking.
I have to say that this was the best meal I had since leaving home.
